DIRECT REPRESENTATION FOR DETAINED AND RELEASED ADULTS

WHO WE SERVE

Esperanza's staff attorneys represent especially vulnerable immigrants within the detained population at Adelanto Detention Facility. These include individuals with mental illness, past criminal history, and particularly complicated legal cases. The adult detainees come from many different countries. Many of them have families and other strong ties to the U.S, while others have recently arrived in the country seeking asylum. In addition, Esperanza represents released adults and families seeking asylum in the United States.

WHAT WE DO

Through the Direct Representation Program, Esperanza attorneys represent adult detainees and released adults and families in immigration removal proceedings. They are also Qualified Representatives for adults deemed mentally incompetent to represent themselves. Our attorneys work hard to change the system to a more humane one that empowers detained  and released adults and families to be knowledgeable of the process and their rights. We provide support and representation to some of the most vulnerable adults who would otherwise have no access to legal services.
